JEE Main vs JEE Advanced — What's the difference?
JEE Main is conducted by NTA and is the gateway to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Top 2.5 lakh JEE Main qualifiers are eligible for JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is conducted by IITs and is the only way to get into IITs. If your JEE Main rank is under approximately 10,000-15,000 General category, you likely qualify for JEE Advanced.
What is JoSAA counselling?
JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) conducts centralized counselling for admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced ranks. JoSAA typically conducts 6 rounds of seat allotment. Our predictor uses JoSAA 2024 Round 6 closing ranks which represent the final cutoffs.
Home State vs Other State quota at NITs
All NITs reserve 50% seats for students from the home state (HS quota) and 50% for other states (OS quota). Generally, OS quota cutoffs are lower (better for outsiders) while HS quota cutoffs are higher. For example, at NIT Trichy, a student from Tamil Nadu competes in HS quota while students from all other states compete in OS quota.
